How We Work Remotely In Our Custom Van
Van Life Tour
Two of the most common questions I get are “do you work?” and “how do you work while living in a van?”. In this post, I’ll take you along as I answer these questions and turn my van into a million-dollar office.
Desk Setup
Welcome to my humble abode! The first step in converting the van into an office is turning the driver and passenger’s seats around 180 degrees. These are our new desk chairs. The process goes a little like this…
The passenger seat is mine and the driver’s is Ashley’s when it comes to our office setup. Ashley has a 22-inch monitor that is connected to the wall. It can swivel and rotate, making room for her laptop. This allows her to have a dual monitor setup. Ashley works with a lot of spreadsheets and documents so having two monitors was a big request of hers.
She also has a table that folds out from the wall. This acts as a little desk.
As for my desk, there is a small port on the floor that a pole twists into. From here, I screw my square tabletop onto the pole. Voila! Now I have a desk too.
Technology
I currently use a Macbook but I’m seriously thinking about going all-in on the newest iPad that’s coming out; I think it’s capable of doing everything I need it to. I also have a handy computer stand and a magic mouse.
WiFi
For WiFi, we use the Verizon M2100. It is a 5G hotspot that allows us to get some of our work done. We usually get a 4G connection with 4 out of 5 bars. This is pretty good for being in the middle of nowhere!
